The first consideration, am I eligible?
There are many funders that have resources ready to go, but one of the first things to keep in mind is: eligibility.
Access to funding comes easier to non-profits or fiscally sponsored organizations. Very rarely are resources given to individuals.
We suggest seeking out a fiscal sponsorship to receive funding or attain 501(c)3 status.
Wield the power of data to showcase the output of your work.
Data collection is often an afterthought when doing good work in our communities. It is essential to be mindful of continuously tracking progress in your programs. This will showcase the impact that your work is doing and is easily provided to funders.
How will you utilize funding to further your work?
Be very clear and specific when addressing how funding will be implemented into your program. The clarity in how and where resources will be applied is necessary when applying for grants or opportunities.
Collect feedback and testimonials from participants and guardians.
Having real-life testimonials of the impact your work has had on participants is vital when showcasing your work. As your program progresses, ask the participants for a testimonial.
Even some negative feedback can be insightful, so don’t be afraid to showcase those as it will illuminate a path forward or bring attention to areas of need.
